You number my wanderings; put my tears in Your bottle; are they not in Your book? Psalm 56:8
Those words, long ago penned by David, speak a beautiful truth of our loving God…our tears matter to Him.
Nothing in our life is ever lost on God, not even our tears; He keeps an account of them and holds them in a special place. I believe God records our tears and keeps them in His bottle because they are the outpouring evidence of our heart which is most precious to our heavenly Father.
God cares about the matters of our heart. Do the tears of grief pour out over the death of a loved one? Those tears matter to God. Are there tears of heartache over the long awaiting return of a prodigal child? Those tears matter to God. Do the tears of betrayal from a friend or your spouse sting your face? Those tears matter to God.
The Lord wants us to bring our cares along with our tears to Him. All of our burdens, our anxieties, our hurts, whatever things that weigh our hearts down, bring them to God because He cares for us.
…casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:17
I too have tears that spill forth, even as I write this. But I also have hope because of the faithfulness of God and the truth of His promises knowing that one day, our tears of sorrow will be wiped away by our precious Lord.
He will swallow up death forever, and the LORD GOD will wipe away tears from all faces; Isaiah 25:8a
Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy. Psalm 126:5
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21:4
