I enjoy taking pictures of the often overlooked, everydays in nature. I find God’s creation absolutely fascinating and I often marvel at the intricate details He has made. Even something as simple as the morning dew on blades of green grass or the way the sunlight shines through a tree, I find wonderfully beautiful. Take for example, the picture I took above; it is nothing more than a common weed, something unwanted in a garden but to me when I look at it, I see the beautiful handiwork of God.
Our perspective of others as well as our perspective of our self can sadly mimic this very thing. In our sinful nature, we have the propensity to be the one who overlooks or the one made to feel overlooked. We can be so busy in our day to day that we may sometimes overlook the beauty in those around us, even our own family and friends. They can inadvertently become commonplace to us much like the dew on the grass or the sunlight in the trees. We take for granted the beauty of who they are. Or perhaps you are the one feeling like the dew on the grass; overlooked and seemingly unimportant or worse yet you are feeling more like the weed, someone not wanted who doesn’t belong in the garden with everyone else.
Praise God, our loving Father and Creator never overlooks us or sees us as common! We are His image bearers, His beautiful handiwork. “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;” Genesis 1:26
We are each uniquely designed and we are greatly valued. “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;” Psalm 139:14 “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? But the very hairs of your head are numbered.” Matthew 6:26,10:30
In fact, we are so loved and of great value that our Lord Jesus paid the ultimate price for us on the cross; His life in exchange for ours. This was no small act. “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13-14 This was born out of God’s own heart, a love so great for His image bearers that it far exceeds our understanding. “In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only Son into the world, that we might live through Him.” 1 John 4:9
This bears repeating: God never overlooks us or sees us as common, He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, as proof of that!
So when you find yourself only seeing the weeds, remember that God sees the beauty.
